FCC Baseball Coach Named Regional Coach of the Year

For the third time in his Frederick Community College career, Baseball Head Coach Rodney Bennett has been named the 2015 Northeast NJCAA Division II American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Diamond Regional Coach of the Year.Bennett is one of only 10 NJCAA DII coaches nationwide to receive regional coach of the year honors.

The baseball team finished the 2015 season ranked No. 2 nationally with a 50-9 record. The team was the Region XX DII champion and Northeast District champion, which earned it a trip to the NJCAA DII World Series in Enid, Oklahoma. This was the third time Bennett has led FCC to the World Series.

Bennett, who also serves as the College Athletics Director, has led the baseball team to an overall 485-184 record since 2003.

Under Bennett’s leadership, the Cougars have been ranked nationally for 13 straight seasons and have won 32 or more games for the last 10 seasons.

This recent honor adds to Bennett’s long list of individual accolades which include:

-          Four-time Region XX Coach of the Year

-          Three-time Northeast District XX Coach of the Year

-          Three-time Northeast NJCAA Division II ABCA/Diamond Regional Coach of the Year

-          Two-time Maryland JUCO Coach of the Year

-          2007 Maryland Collegiate Coach of the Year by the Maryland Association of Baseball Coaches

Bennett is most proud of the accomplishments of his current and former players. More than 140 of his players have gone on to play in the NCAA or the NAIA. He has coached 75 all-region players, 59 all-conference players, 22 All-Americans, three MLB draftees, two MLB free agents, and one national player of the year.

Bennett will be recognized as a 2015 regional coach of the year at the 72nd annual ABCA Convention, which will be held Jan. 7-10, 2016 in Nashville, TN.
