Two Concerts from FCC’s Music Program End April on a High Note
04/24/2014
Two of FCC’s student ensembles will host concerts next week.  “Crazy Rhythm!” takes place on Tuesday, April 29 at 7:00 p.m. and “Good Vibrations” will follow on Wednesday, April 30 at 7:30 p.m. Both events will be held in the Jack B. Kussmaul Theater.

“Crazy Rhythm!” will be performed by Jazz II, one of FCC’s jazz ensembles. The ensemble is directed by Anita Thomas. Jazz II, comprised of credit and non-credit students, and meets weekly to study jazz songs from all styles and eras.

The concert repertoire will include tunes from musicals and revues considered part of the ‘Great American Songbook’ as well as pieces by jazz composers like Thelonious Monk and Dave Brubeck.

“Our Jazz II director, Anita Thomas, is a magnificent teacher,” said Dr. Jan Holly, music program manager at FCC.  “Her students follow easily in her footsteps.  They are really fun to watch, and anyone who likes jazz will enjoy this concert.”

FCC’s Percussion Ensemble, directed by Greg Herron, will play music inspired by water in “Good Vibrations” on April 30.  The concert will feature the sounds of the Beach Boys, Dick Dale, and modern composers Jacob Druckman and Lou Harrison.

“We have a dynamic percussion program, particularly now that it has its own space for rehearsals and for storing our huge array of Western and Global percussion instruments,” Holly added.

The Percussion Ensemble has recently performed in an array of events at FCC, including the Spring Arts Showcase, flute choir concert, and the faculty concert “Jazz in the JBK.”

Admission to both concerts is free.
