Suk-Yi Hyun

Pianist Suk Yi Hyun has appeared as a soloist and collaborative pianist in the United States, Canada and Korea. She made her Carnegie Hall debut in 2010 as a prize-winner of the Bradshaw and Buono International Piano Competition and has been selected as a finalist for the Seattle International Piano Competition. Dr. Hyun has also performed in several festivals and concerts, including the 2007 William Kapell competition festival, the Las Vegas Music festival, the Boston Piano and String Festival, the Young Artists Concert, and on Frederick Community College's Artist Series. Music critic Julian Kreeger lauded her for "the best performance of Aaron Copland's Piano Sonata," and critic Tim Smith described the same concert as a "passionate and exciting performance, with a variety of tone colors."

She earned her Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Maryland. She was a recipient of the Albert Lockwood Memorial Scholarship at the University of Michigan, where she earned her Master of Music degree. She received her Bachelor's Degree, summa cum laude, at Seoul National University in Korea. She has studied with Santiago Rodriguez, Arthur Greene and Cleveland Page. She has also played for master classes with such renowned pianists as Lazar Berman, Jerome Lowenthal, and Nelita True.

She is currently on the adjunct faculty at Frederick Community College and a member of MTNA and MSMTA. Her students have won awards at such prestigious competitions as the MTNA piano competition, the Spring Festival and Rockville's piano and string competition. She is pianist with the Aerius Ensemble.
