FCC First Baseman Named NJCAA Division II Baseball Player of the Year

Frederick Community College sophomore first baseman Chris Mattison has been named baseball's NJCAA DII National Player of the year, the NJCAA announced Thursday.

Mattison is the first student-athlete in school history to earn National Player of the Year honors. During this record-setting year, Mattison finished with a .527 batting average, 108 hits, 12 homers, and 87 RBI.  During the 2015 season, he broke six FCC individual single season records and registered a 31-game hit streak.

"We play in an extremely talented division so this award is a tremendous honor for both Chris and FCC," said Rodney Bennett, Athletics Director and Baseball Head Coach. "The hard work and dedication Chris put in to every game paid off and we couldn't be more proud of him."

Mattison will continue his academic and athletic career this fall at Southeastern University (Lakeland, FL, NAIA).

The baseball team finished the 2015 season ranked No. 2 nationally with a remarkable 50-9 record, were the Region XX DII champions & Northeast District Champions, and earned a trip to NJCAA DII World Series in Enid, Oklahoma.
