FCC Hosting Culinary and Baking Scholarship Competition for FCPS High School Students
The FCC Hospitality, Culinary & Tourism Institute (HCTI) is holding culinary and baking competitions to award scholarships to high school students.
The 2018 Culinary Arts Scholarship Competition is open to all juniors and seniors who attend Frederick County Public Schools.
The culinary competition will be held on June 11 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The baking competition will take place on June 12 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Scholarships of $750, $500, and $250 will be provided by the FCC Foundation for first, second, and third place, respectfully, in each competition. Scholarship awards may be applied toward tuition and fees at HCTI within one year of the student’s high school graduation date.
Once students register, they will be provided with recipes to use during the competition. Students in the culinary competition will cook a chicken breast dish using a recipe. They will also be asked to make a seasonal vegetable and a starch without the use of a recipe. Students in the baking competition will make muffins, a fruit tart, and buttercream icing using a recipe and will decorate a pre-made cake.
All ingredients and cooking equipment will be provided. Students will be judged on their food preparation and recipe outcome.
There are 12 spots available in each competition. Registrations will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. Registration is open until May 20 or until maximum enrollment is met. There is a $20 registration fee.
