12/15/2014
Best-selling author Ann Patchett will visit JBK Theater at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 for a discussion of her literary works and a book signing. Patchett comes to FCC as a featured Frederick Reads visiting author, and her talk will complement the 2015 Frederick Reads theme, “A Sense of Wonder.”
Patchett has published six novels, including The Patron Saint of Liars, Taft, The Magician’s Assistant, Bel Canto, Run and State of Wonder.
In 2006 she edited Best American Short Stories, 2006, and she has additionally authored three books of nonfiction, Truth & Beauty, about her friendship with the writer, Lucy Grealy, What now? an expansion of her graduation address at Sarah Lawrence College, and, most recently, This is the Story of a Happy Marriage, a collection of essays that examines the theme of commitment.
Patchett is a generous writer who is committed to providing public access to the work of emerging and established writers. She opened Parnassus Books, an independent bookstore in Nashville, Tennessee, in 2012, after the city lost its two major bookstores.
All of her books will be on sale during Frederick Reads events at FCC and the Weinberg Center, and more programming to connect our students to Patchett’s writing is planned for Spring 2015.
Frederick Reads events are free and open to the public. Student and faculty attendance is encouraged, and student seating is prioritized.
