FCC Celebrates Employee Excellence and Institutional Legacy at Annual Ceremony
04/11/2025
Frederick Community College (FCC) hosted its annual Celebration of Excellence today, a signature event honoring employee dedication, years of service, and the shared mission that drives the College’s enduring impact.
The event spotlighted individuals celebrating service milestones from five to 35 years, acknowledged recent and upcoming retirees, welcomed new employees, and recognized outstanding achievements through multiple awards for innovation, leadership, and excellence.
“Today is about people,” said Chair of the Board of Trustees, Ted Luck. “It’s about you—the employees whose passion and dedication drive the mission of this College every single day. It is because of your commitment that FCC will continue to rise.”
In her remarks, FCC President Dr. Annesa Payne Cheek emphasized the importance of resilience and unity. “What defines FCC isn’t a moment—it’s the impact we make together, day after day,” she said. “Across higher education, change continues to shape our landscape. Here at FCC, we’ve navigated that change with consistency and care, guided by a shared mission and a strong sense of community.”
Dr. Cheek also presented the College’s highest honors, including the Dr. Patricia Stanley Excellence and Leadership Award, the Dr. Carol Eaton Innovation Award, and the President’s Award. This year’s President’s Award was presented to the executive committee behind FCC’s Middle States Self-Study and Reaffirmation—a team credited with laying the groundwork for long-term institutional progress.
In her opening remarks, Vice President for Talent and Culture, Dr. Bridgette Cofield, emphasized the strength of the College’s workforce. “I am wholeheartedly committed to investing in YOU—our exceptional body of talent—and cultivating a vibrant CULTURE, one that continues to attract and inspire outstanding people to advance FCC's mission,” she said.
Additional award presentations included the Laughlin Awards for distinguished faculty, staff, and adjunct excellence, as well as the Rewards and Recognition Awards, nominated and selected by FCC’s Affinity Groups.
The program also introduced the College’s newest employees and acknowledged those who recently transitioned into new roles. Special recognition was given to retirees and six newly named Emeritus faculty and staff members for their exceptional contributions to the institution.
“The excellence we celebrate today is no surprise,” added Chair Luck. “It reflects a culture where every individual is empowered to grow, contribute, and lead with purpose.”
