Frederick Community College is hosting the Maryland Tech Council’s Data Center Summit in the JBK Theater today, to a sold-out crowd. FCC staff will both learn from the Summit and contribute to it, by gathering information about forthcoming jobs in this emerging tech field as well as sharing current successful training models that are developing the workforce for the future.
 
FCC is serving more than 14,000 students with degrees, certificates, short-term workforce training, and continuing education opportunities.  “As a major partner in the economic and social vitality of the region, FCC is always exploring workforce development needs for both established and emerging industries that prepare Frederick County residents for high wage, in-demand jobs, most recently including Life Sciences and Biotech, Advanced Manufacturing, and Cybersecurity,” said FCC President Dr. Annesa Payne Cheek.
 
Frederick County is the site of this statewide Data Center Summit organized by the Maryland Tech Council. The event is sponsored by 24 entities across industry sectors including electrical, construction, higher education, organized labor, information technology, and more. Maryland Tech Council’s goals for the event include exploring data center growth, sustainability, and workforce development.
 
As a major asset in regional workforce and economic development systems, FCC was an optimal site for the discussions exploring why Maryland is an ideal location for data centers, examination of State policies, geographic benefits, and strategies to overcome barriers to entry. Key insights can be gained as the College continues to prepare students for emerging industries and technologies to experience successful local careers. The Maryland Data Center Summit provides a unique platform for meaningful discussions and critical networking that will foster collaboration and drive growth in our state.
