FCC Receives $150,000 Grant from Truist Foundation
08/25/2023

Frederick Community College (FCC) announced that the FCC Foundation, Inc. received a $150,000 grant from Truist Foundation to help innovate health science education and address healthcare workforce shortages.

The grant, funded over three years, will assist with the promotion of the health science pathway from Frederick County Public Schools (FCPS) to high-wage, high-demand health care programs at FCC. The goal is to encourage FCPS students to complete training for entry into health care fields leading to sustainable wages and meeting critical community health care needs.

“We are thankful for this grant and look forward to working with our FCPS partner as we continue providing increased opportunities and access for students to progress in their education toward a more equitable participation in our economy, society, and democracy,” said Dr. Annesa Payne Cheek, FCC President.

“This generous funding from Truist Foundation assists FCC in addressing the ongoing critical health care shortage by supporting our boot camps that promote health science programming pathways from FCPS to FCC,” said Dr. Anne Davis, FCC Provost and Vice President for Teaching, Learning and Student Success. “Our students will be well-prepared to hit the ground running to meet the challenges of the ever-evolving health care environment.”

Health Science Boot Camps at FCC provide FCPS students with the opportunity to participate in experiential learning across the health care programming, with the goal of increasing interest and enrollment in essential health care fields offered at FCC, including nursing, respiratory care, physical therapist assistant, surgical technology, medical assistant, and personal training.

Funding will also be used to augment current health care programming with state-of- the-art simulation technology specifically targeting the integration of foundational sciences with applied health science training.

“High-quality healthcare delivery is essential for thriving communities, and addressing workforce shortages is key to ensuring that care remains accessible,” said Truist Market President Robert Tuggle. “We applaud Frederick Community College’s innovative approach to addressing these opportunities. This grant reflects our purpose to inspire and build better lives and communities.”
