FCC to Celebrate 65th Commencement on May 18

Frederick Community College (FCC) celebrates its 65th Commencement of the Class of 2023 on Thursday, May 18.

“Providing opportunities for our students to gain the skills and knowledge needed to live the life they want to live is a top priority at Frederick Community College,” said Dr. Annesa Payne Cheek, President of FCC. “Commencement is truly a special day, as we come together as a College community and celebrate the newest class of graduates who have received credentials toward their academic and/or career goals. This is the FCC mission, lived out in the wellbeing of our students and their families, through higher education.”

The Class of 2023 is comprised of more than 850 graduates who will be awarded associate degrees and certificates.

More information about the Class of 2023:
  • Graduates range in age from 17 to 72 years old
  • The class’s cumulative GPA is 3.34
  • The graduating class includes 217 students who are graduating with high honors and 170 students who are graduating with honors
  • There are 276 students who are first-generation college graduates
  • There are 34 students who are military veterans
The most popular degrees earned this year are:
  • Business Administration
  • Health Science
  • General Studies
  • Social Sciences
  • Science
The Commencement Ceremony will feature speeches from two students representing the Class of 2023: Danna Matheus and Keisha Moore.
Danna is receiving an Associate of Arts degree in Communications with High Honors. She has been accepted to the University of Maryland this fall, where she will pursue a Journalism degree. Danna wishes to help communities around the world by raising the voices of those in need.

Keisha is receiving an Associate of Applied Science degree in STEM Technology with a concentration in Cybersecurity. She is also employed full-time at the AstraZeneca Pharmaceutical Company and is the mother of four children. Keisha enrolled at FCC to pursue her academic goals 25 years after she completed high school. 

The Commencement Celebration will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Athletics Center. There will be a live stream of the event available on www.frederick.edu.
