The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program teaches students about basic patient care skills, their role as a member of the healthcare team, disease processes, infection control, and safety issues. Students are prepared for the Maryland Board of Nursing state certification as well as the National Geriatric Nursing Assistant exam. This program includes a required 45-hour clinical experience in addition to the classroom/lab. This option does not award academic credit. Please note: The new Exercise Science Area of Concentration (AOC)has been approved by MHEC, which replaces this program. New students should select the new Exercise Science AOC for the 2024-2025 catalog year. Students in the Health and Exercise Sciences AOC under a previous catalog year will have the option to change their major to the new Exercise Science AOC with the 2024-2025 catalog year or complete the Health and Exercise Sciences AOC under their previous catalog year. Medical Billing professionals provide administrative and clerical services to assist healthcare offices. The Medical Billing program prepares students for the AAPC Certified Professional Biller (CPB) certification exam with course fees including the cost for exam as well as one year membership in AAPC. The Medical Coding program prepares students for AAPC certification as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC). Students learn how to use the coding manuals for CPT, ID-10, and HCPCS to describe and document medical services accurately. The program includes the first year of membership in AAPC and the CPC exam. Students will learn the life cycle of a billing claim and how medical insurances work with the billing process in a physician’s office. Basic medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and introduction to Medical Coding ICD-10 are covered. This option does not award academic credit. The Tactical Strength and Conditioning (TSAC) certificate program at FCC prepares students to assess physical fitness, design and implement training programs, and improve health, wellness, and performance in Law Enforcement, Fire and Rescue, and Military populations.  Students learn to apply principles of Exercise Physiology, Nutrition, Strength and Conditioning, and Psychological factors to reduce injuries, improve job performance, and lower employer healthcare costs.
