01/31/2022
Dr. Benita Rashaw, an experienced college administrator and educator, has been named the Frederick Community College associate vice president of Student Affairs, effective January 28.

In this position, Dr. Rashaw will lead the areas of behavioral health and wellness, student engagement, student conduct, and student customer service at FCC.

“Ensuring the success of our students in all aspects of their lives requires a comprehensive approach,” said Dr. Nora Clark, FCC vice president of Student Affairs. “Dr. Rashaw’s experience and passion for promoting health and wellness, leadership, and engagement among students will be a critical asset in that comprehensive approach to help students succeed at FCC and beyond.”

Dr. Rashaw has been a leader in collegiate student affairs for more than 22 years and has served as an adjunct faculty member for more than 15 years.

Prior to her appointment to FCC, Benita served as the Student Affairs Operations Director at Montgomery College. While there, she was instrumental in developing the Student Health and Wellness (SHaW) Center for Success, focused on addressing food insecurity among students, promoting mental and physical wellness, and offering health safety and education programming.

Under Dr. Rashaw’s leadership with the SHaW Center, Montgomery College received a nearly $1 million grant from the United States Department of Education to support college students’ basic needs.

A Washington, D.C. native, Dr. Rashaw uses her personal experience as a first-generation college student to connect with students in a similar position, as well as all those who see college as an opportunity to better themselves and their families.

Dr. Rashaw is a graduate of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES), where she earned a Bachelor’s of Science in general agriculture, a Master of Arts in teaching, agricultural, and extension education, and a doctorate degree in organizational leadership with a concentration in higher education administration.

As a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Dr. Rashaw enjoys serving others through her engagement in the Frederick community.  Of her many accomplishments, Dr. Rashaw is most proud of being a devoted wife and mother of two daughters.
