Mathematics Area of Concentration within the A.S. in STEM
The Mathematics Area of Concentration within the A.S. in STEM is designed for students who plan to go on to a four-year school and major in one of the traditional STEM areas (science, technology, engineering, math) with a heavy emphasis on undergraduate mathematics or science.

The Mathematics Area of Concentration within the A.S. in STEM is a transfer degree that provides courses typically required of mathematics majors during their first two years of college. Students who study higher level mathematics are sought out by employers because of their problem-solving skills, ability to think logically, and ability to understand technical information. Students who earn degrees in mathematics go on to work in bank and finance fields, actuarial sciences, operations research, computer science, cryptology, and teaching.

Students planning to concentrate in a STEM area should consult with an advisor or ARTSYS as early as possible to ensure that all or most of their course credits will transfer to the four-year college or university of their choice.

Note: The STEM program is also the appropriate choice for students interested in taking courses towards a bachelor’s degree in preparation for careers in dentistry, medicine, pharmacy, and physical therapy.
