FCC Partners with International Electrical Contractors Chesapeake
12/08/2021
The Frederick Community College Business Solutions program has teamed up with International Electrical Contractors Chesapeake to provide electrical apprenticeship training.

Through the partnership, electrical apprentices will participate in a Maryland Department of Labor approved apprenticeship program in the Frederick County area.  Program completers receive certificates of completion and have the necessary foundation to prepare for a Journeyman’s License.   “IEC Chesapeake is excited to reestablish the electrical apprenticeship program at FCC after a three year hiatus. This increases the number of sites the IEC Chesapeake has to eleven across the region. IEC Chesapeake has almost 1000 registered apprentices,” says Grant Shmelzer, IEC Chesapeake Executive Director.

“We are proud to be a part of this partnership that provides students with unique and innovative training,” said Molly Carlson, Director of Workforce & Community Education at FCC.  “The program emphasizes a hands-on learning experience in conjunction with traditional classwork, and exposes students to new and changing technologies in renewable energy.”

Classes begin January 11, 2022. The program is open to high school graduates or GED holders who are at least 18 (or have a legal guardian’s permission) and who hold a valid driver’s license, have access to email and the Internet, can pass a Math and Reading assessment, and can work independently as well as a member of a team.

Aspiring electricians can learn more about this program and register by visiting iechesapeake.com or calling 301-621-9545.
