Support Student Parents through Unity Campaign
03/14/2022
Help Frederick Community College support student parents who are trying to better themselves by earning a degree while raising young children.

Through the Unity Campaign, FCC is raising funds this week for its Parents Lead program, which provides students who are parents with specialized curriculum, advising services, and funding for childcare costs.

The program helps hardworking students like Grace McCallum, a single mother of two who is studying arts and humanities with plans to enter the FCC Sign Language Interpreter Program.

“This program is a godsend,” Grace said. “With Parents Lead, classes are in the evening. I feel like super mom. I can do it all - get the kids to school, work, go to class, do homework. I have two daughters and they are proud to see their mother going back to school.”

The Unity Campaign, sponsored by the United Way of Frederick County, is a collaboration between nonprofit partners, sponsors, and the greater Frederick community. It raises money for nonprofit organizations that support Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed (ALICE) households in need of food, shelter, clothing, financial sustainability, and healthcare.

As part of the campaign, individuals are asked to donate to local causes and programs like Parents Lead between March 9 and March 20, 2022.

To donate, visit the Parents Lead page on the Unity Campaign website.
