Patient Care Technician

Graduates are eligible to sit for the NHA Certified Patient Care Technician/Assistant (CPCT/A) certification exam.

Program Information
Patient Care Technicians provide advanced clinical support to nurses, physicians, and other healthcare providers across a variety of complex care settings. Building on the foundational skills of a Certified Nursing Assistant, this program prepares you to take on expanded responsibilities and develop the technical competencies that employers in hospitals, outpatient clinics, and long-term care facilities depend on.
Instruction covers EKG readings, patient nutrition, wound care, catheter care, glucose monitoring, IV administration, specimen collection for diagnostic testing, basic laboratory work, pre- and post-surgical care, phlebotomy procedures, and pediatric patient care.

NHA Certified Patient Care Technician/Assistant (CPCT/A)
Upon successful completion of this program, you are eligible to sit for the Certified Patient Care Technician/Assistant (CPCT/A) Certification exam. Offered by the National Healthcareer Association, this certification is a nationally recognized credential validating competency across a broad range of patient care skills.

Patient Care Technician Workforce Training Certificate
Upon successful completion of this 1-course program, you are eligible to receive this Construction & Applied Technologies Institute credential that documents your patient care skills and prepares you to provide professional assistance to healthcare providers in a variety of complex healthcare settings. Instruction covers EKG readings, patient nutrition, wound care, catheter care, glucose monitoring, IV administration, specimen collection, basic laboratory work, pre/post-surgical care, phlebotomy procedures, and pediatric patient care.
Eligibility Requirements
- Participants are required to successfully complete the course series identified as a Workforce Training Certificate program, as approved by the College.
- Students may request approval to transfer up to 25% of total Certificate contact hours of prior learning from an accredited institution for select Workforce Training Certificates.
- Please note, course substitutions are not permitted and completion is based upon competency.
Important Information
- Certificates are awarded monthly following course completion, rather than at the end of a traditional semester.
- These programs consist of Workforce Training (non-credit) courses with fee structures subject to change.
- Courses are not eligible for federal financial aid.

Patient Care Technicians

Working at an advanced level above the CNA role, PCTs perform EKG monitoring, phlebotomy, IV administration, wound care, glucose monitoring, specimen collection, and pre- and post-surgical support. PCTs also assist with pediatric patient care and basic laboratory procedures, helping patients through some of the most important moments of their care experience.
