Program Information
The Cyber Workforce Accelerator (CWA) is a no-cost, fast-track cybersecurity training program designed for individuals with foundational IT or cybersecurity knowledge who are ready to launch a career in one of today's fastest-growing, highest-paying industries. The program is delivered 100% online, including hands-on training on a live Cyber Range.
CWA is built around the Security Operations Center Operations Analyst I (SOCOA I) Certification, an Industry-Recognized Credential (IRC) recognized by the State of Maryland. Participants develop real-world skills in threat detection, incident response, Linux, networking, and governance -- preparing for entry-level SOC roles and immediate employment upon completion.
Curriculum
- Part I -- Asynchronous Virtual Training (40 Hours): Build foundational expertise in cybersecurity governance, threat analysis, networking, Linux command line, and attacker behavior
- Part II -- Experiential Range Training (8 Hours): Engage in instructor-led exercises on the BCR Cyber Series 3000 Cyber Range to detect, mitigate, and remediate simulated cyber attacks
- Certification Exam: A rigorous 100-question, 90-minute test to measure your technical and operational proficiency
Security Operations Center Operations Analyst I (SOCOA I) Certification
Upon successful Cyber Workforce Accelerator program completion, you can earn the Security Operations Center Operations Analyst I (SOCOA I) Certification, an Industry-Recognized Credential (IRC) recognized by the State of Maryland. This credential demonstrates your skills and knowledge for entry-level cybersecurity positions and is valued by employers across government agencies, private industry, and cybersecurity-specific organizations. Job placement assistance is also available.
To participate in the Cyber Workforce Accelerator, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Enrollment through a participating Maryland community college (Frederick Community College is a participant)
- Pursuing or holding an IT/Cybersecurity Associate's degree, or two of the following certifications: CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, or CompTIA Security+
- Actively seeking employment in IT/Cybersecurity
- Maryland resident with U.S. citizenship, Green Card, or valid U.S. employment authorization
- No criminal convictions
- Age 18 or older (or age 17, turning 18 within six months of program start)
- Time Commitment: 48 hours plus exam, completed within 60 days of start date
- Flexible Start Dates: Program runs year-round
- Training Format: 100% online and self-paced. In-person attendance in a classroom is not required.
