New Physical Therapy Degree and Exercise Science Opportunities Between FCC and Harrisburg University
06/11/2024
Officials at Frederick Community College (FCC) and Harrisburg University of Science and Technology (HU) signed an articulation agreement to provide a seamless pathway for FCC Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) students to obtain an advanced degree at Harrisburg.

Generally, articulation agreements document a pathway between two or more colleges or universities and their academic programs, to simplify students’ college transitions toward continued/seamless enrollment in a 4-year institution's program.  This will be the case for FCC’s Physical Therapy Assistant students.

The PTA program at FCC was recently accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). This interprofessional team training program offered by FCC’s Health Science Department, further augments this lauded training approach for all students pursuing healthcare careers at the College.

In alignment with the accreditation, FCC also announced an exciting new dual program transfer agreement with HU’s Exercise Science program for PTA students at FCC. Upon completion of the PTA associate degree and licensure, FCC students can transfer to HU to complete a bachelor’s degree in exercise science.

This dual-programming opportunity will allow students to enter the workforce as physical therapist assistants upon graduation from FCC and continue online coursework at HU to complete the Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science.

“This agreement provides an exciting opportunity for students to extend their education while working in the high-demand, high-wage field of physical therapy,” said Dr. Anne Davis, FCC Provost and Vice President for Teaching, Learning and Student Success. “Furthermore, this unique programming gives students a leg-up in completing a highly-relevant undergraduate bachelor’s degree for those interested in pursuing graduate healthcare education.”
