Earn Academic Credit for Workforce Training

Many credentials earned through Continuing Education and Workforce Development (CEWD) courses at FCC can be converted to academic credits. Advance your career by applying those credits toward a degree, certificate, or transfer program. Complete your CEWD courses, earn your industry credential, and receive academic credit.

Getting Started

Converting your workforce trainingcredentials to academic credit is a three-step process. 

Complete CEWD Workforce Training Courses
Enroll in and complete the required CEWD courses for your chosen credential area.

Earn Your Industry Credential
Pass the required exam or meet the credential requirements for your program area.

Receive Academic Credits
You need to be enrolled in at least one FCC credit course to receive credit conversion. Contact Registration and Records to apply your credential toward academic credit in an eligible FCC credit program.

Programs Eligible for Credit Conversion

The following CEWD workforce training programs can result in industry credentials that are eligible for academic credit conversion. Select a program area below to find the specific courses to take, credentials to earn, and academic credits available.

Project Management

Step 1: Earn Industry Credential

Step 2: Receive Academic Credits

  • Students must be enrolled in the Business Administration or Business Management degree program.

Home Inspector

Step 1: Earn Industry Credential

  • Earn an industry credential as a licensed Maryland Home Inspector. Prepare for the exam by completing the CEWD course below, or prepare and take the exam independently.
  • CPD323 - Home Inspection Pre-Licensure

Step 2: Receive Academic Credits

  • Students must be enrolled in the Business Administration or Business Management degree program.

Real Estate

Step 1: Earn Industry Credential

CompTIA A+

Step 1: Earn Industry Credential

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

Step 1: Earn Industry Credential

Step 2: Receive Academic Credits

  • Students must hold a valid CNA license issued by Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, or the District of Columbia Board of Nursing.
  • Students must have declared the Medical Assisting AAS or Certificate program prior to Fall 2025.

Phlebotomy Technician

Step 1: Earn Industry Credential

  • Students must have declared the Medical Assisting AAS or Certificate program prior to Fall 2025.

Culinary Medicine

Step 1: Earn Industry Credential

  • Students must be enrolled in the Culinary Arts & Supervision degree program.

Sanitation and Food Safety

Step 1: Earn Industry Credential

  • Earn an industry credential as a ServSafe Food Protection Manager. Prepare for the exam by completing the CEWD course below, or prepare and take the exam independently.
  • HCT117 - Sanitation and Food Safety

Step 2: Receive Academic Credits

  • Students must be enrolled in either the Culinary Arts & Supervision AAS degree program or Culinary Skills certificate program.
  • Students must have achieved the ServSafe certification within three years of the date of credit application.

Computer Aided Design (CAD) Certificate

Step 1: Complete CEWD Workforce Training Courses

Step 2: Receive Academic Credits

  • Students must be enrolled in an FCC credit program, registered in at least one 3-credit course, and have earned a B or higher on the final exam in the corresponding CEWD courses above.
  • Contact Registration and Records at [email protected] or 301.846.2431 to receive academic credit for: CADT 101 - AutoCAD I (3 credits), CADT 102 - AutoCAD II (3 credits), CADT 130 - Revit (BIM) (3 credits).

Electrician Certificate

  • Students must be enrolled in an FCC credit program, registered in at least one 3-credit course, and have earned a B or higher on the final exam in the corresponding CEWD courses above.

  • Students must be enrolled in an FCC credit program, registered in at least one 3-credit course, and have earned a B or higher on the final exam in the corresponding CEWD courses above.
